“Each birth replicates the divine act of Exodus, the divine Creation.  As in Egypt, each birth partakes fractionally of its sublime universal significance.  Cumulatively, the conscious will to birth, as resistance to oppression, is the human liberation activism that prepared for divine redemption. Together with their families and accomplices in Egypt, the Israelite women ease open the liberation channels through intentional collective repetition of birth in defiance of death.  According to this metaphor, liberation is a birth process; enabling life is one of the activities of the Creator who re-news every day continuously the acts of genesis.’

Blood and Ink, Bonna Devora Haberman z”l
